AUTHOR

Ensler, Eve, Tenneson, Joyce

SUMMARY

Eve Ensler is the author of The Good Body and the Obie Award-winning Vagina Monologues, among other works. The Vagina Monologues has been translated into more than thirty-five languages and performed in theaters all over the world. Ms. Ensler has devoted her life to stopping violence, envisioning a planet where women and girls will be free to thrive rather than merely survive. V-Day originated out of Ms. Ensler's conversations with women who approached her after early performances of The Vagina Monologues to tell her of their own experiences of violence. She began to use performances of the play to raise funds for organizations working to stop violence. Soon, she and the group of women who make up V-Day found that support for their efforts was far-reaching and expansive. What began as a simple possibility quickly transformed into a worldwide social and activist movement. Joyce Tenneson, author of ten books, including the runaway hit Wise Women, is an award-winning photographer based in New York City. Tenneson first met Eve Ensler in 2000 when she photographed her for Time magazine. Since then, she has photographed more than one hundred activists who are part of the global V-Day movement, originally conceived as a public-service photo campaign to raise awareness about V-Day's mission of creating a world free of violence. Published in more than thirty magazines, these portraits have been organized into the book Vagina Warriors.Ensler, Eve is the author of 'Vagina Warriors', published 0007 under ISBN 9780821261842 and ISBN 0821261843.
