As part of the Federal Writers' Project, begun by F.D.R., author Bernice Kelly Harris was hired as an interviewer to document the lives of Southern people in their own words. Haunted by the stories she heard, Harris began incorporating them in her own writings. In her third novel, Harris tells of the fictional town of Beulah Ridge and the characters inhabiting it -- sharecroppers, small farmers, and wealthy landowners. Eudora Welty, a contemporary of Harris, reviewed the novel and found it to be "at once exhaustive in detail and tender in exactness".Harris, Bernice K. is the author of 'Sweet Beulah Land', published 1999 under ISBN 9781928556008 and ISBN 1928556000.
