"ROSALIA, BE PROUD" is a book that will inform young readers as well as adults about the importance of knowing the identity of one's culture, in order to feel proud of who they are. This story is about a young girl, named Rosalia, who is teased at school by some of her classmates, because of being mixed with Black African American & Mexican American. Rosalia then became confused & ashamed of who she was. However, with the guidance & understanding of her parents, Rosalia learns she has a lot to be proud of. Her father began by telling Rosalia about her heritage on his side of the family that had originally come from West Africa. He taught her about a great African king named Mansa Mausa & how beautiful & rich the culture was in West Africa. When Rosalia's father finished, her mother taught her about the Mexican culture on her side of the family, which had its beginning in Mexico City. She started with the great civilization of the Aztec Indians in Mexico. Then she taught Rosalia how the children in that culture were raised & how they were educated in the arts, sciences, math & history.
