Monday at the Charm

This novel is a poignantly told story about four women at a public psychiatric clinic on the day that the clinics closing is announced. Each woman tells her own story in the first person singular voice as the day begins. The characters focus on a critical situation in their personal life -- for example, the social worker has recently learned that her husband is a transvestite -- as well as their perceptions of the other characters at The Charm City Community Mental Health Center. At the end of the day, the women are revisited. Each comes to a sense of resolution about her personal crisis, as well as about the turbulence caused in her life by the imminent closing of the clinic.
