SUMMARY

An extended half hour sketch. It's Christmas Eve and Bob, a kindly Salvation Army bell ringer, stands outside a department store on a city street. He befriends a young boy, Steven, and his older brother, Randy (who has just quit his job at the department store). Randy is suspicious of Bob's warmth, but Bob explains he is simply sharing the same sort of kindness he received from a Christian baseball coach when he was a boy. That man helped Bob "get on the inside"-which is one way to look at the message of Christmas. The older brother Randy is too cynical to believe, but Steven wants what Bob is describing. Steven then stands in front of the manger scene in the department store, and as the music builds, the life-size characters come to life. It becomes the first Christmas night complete with shepherds, wise men, and Steven standing awestruck right in the middle of it all.Willow Creek Association is the author of 'Miracle of Christmas', published 1996 under ISBN 9780310675457 and ISBN 0310675456.
