SUMMARY

Recent years have witnessed a fundamental change in the way governments approach energy-related environmental issues. This publication contains data on carbon dioxide emissions from fuel combustion for more than 140 countries and regions by sector and by fuel covering the years 1971-2001. In recognition of the importance of environmental aspects of energy, the IEA has prepared this edition of its published statistics on CO2 emissions from fossil-fuel combustion. Most of the data presented in this edition are only for energy-related CO2 and so may differ from countries' official submissions of emissions inventories to the UNFCCC Secretariat. In addition summary data for CO2 from non-energy related sources and gas flaring and emissions from CH4, N2O, HFC, PFC and SF6 are shown in part 3 in cooperation with the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. The text is written in English and French.IEA Staff is the author of 'Co2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion 1972-2001 2003 Edition', published 2003 under ISBN 9789264102255 and ISBN 9264102256.
