Sue Hamilton is Reader in Later European Prehistory at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL. Her published work has been on British and European Bronze and Iron Age societies and technologies (particularly ceramics). Her main interests in recent years have been landscape archaeology, phenomenology, archaeological field practice and its published formats. She has worked in, and continues to maintain strong links with, contract archaeology. She has conducted fieldwork in southern Britain, France, and Italy. Her most recent work incorporates consideration of gendered landscapes and the use of gendered perspectives in field practice. Ruth D. Whitehouse is Professor of Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. She has researched for many years on Italian and West Mediterranean prehistory, concentrating on social archaeology in general and more specifically on ritual and religion. In the last decade she has also pursued research into gender archaeology. Combining these areas of interest is an edited volume, Gender and Italian Archaeology. Challenging the Stereotypes (1998). Katherine I. Wright is Lecturer in Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. She studied archaeology, anthropology and Near Eastern languages and history at Yale University. Her research centers primarily on Neolithic and Bronze Age societies of western Asia, with emphasis on problems in social organization, the emergence of social hierarchies, food processing, dress and the body, ground stone technologies, and stone bead making.
