SUMMARY

The Cooperative Atmosphere-Surface Exchange Study conducted near Leon, KS in October 1999 (CASES-99) is a multidisciplinary effort to study the interaction of the lower atmosphere with the land surface. Seven three-axis sonic anemometers from the U.S. Army Research Laboratory were deployed on five towers during the CASES-99 field campaign. Each of them has collected more than 100 hr of data. This report describes our data collection and processing details, and provides preliminary analyses from the intercomparison of sonic measurements. One of the interesting results of the intercomparison appears to be the microscale (on the order of 1 km) variability of wind field and turbulence characteristics, which is worthy of further study.Army Research Lab Adelphi Computational and Information Sciences Directorate is the author of 'Analysis of Sonic Anemometer Data from the CASES-99 Field Experiment' with ISBN 9781423549185 and ISBN 142354918X.
