Slonimsky's Book of Musical Anecdotes

Nicolas Slonimsky occupies a giant space in the world of musical lexicography. In a lifetime virtually spanning the 20th century (1894-1995), he wrote and edited the most influential and authoritative musical reference works, including five editions of Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Music and Music Since 1900. But he always had a lighter side: it was his idea to collect bad reviews of the great composers' music, the classic Lexicon of Musical Invective -- a work perhaps prompted by the reviews he himself had received when he conducted pioneering concerts of modern works.
