Mermaid Saga

Rumiko Takahashi, born in 1957 in Niigata, Japan, is the acclaimed creator and artist of Mermaid Saga, Inu-Yasha, Ranma 1/2, Maison Ikkoku and Lum * Urusei Yatsura. While she attended the prestigious Nihon Joseidai (Japan Women's University), Takahashi began studying comics at Gekiga Sonjuku, a famous school for manga artists run by Kazuo Koike, author of Crying Freeman and Lone Wolf and Cub. In 1978, Takahashi won a prize in Shogakukan's annual New Comic Artist Contest, and her boy-meets-alien comedy, Lum * Urusei Yatsura, began appearing in the weekly manga magazine Shonen Sunday. Takahashi's success and critical acclaim continues to grow, with popular titles including Ranma 1/2 and InuYasha.
