Selected Shorter Writings J. Gresham Machen

J. Gresham Machen (1881-1937) was a professor at Princeton Theological Seminary for twenty-three years before founding Westminster Theological Seminary in 1929. Among his major publications were The Origin of Paul's Religion (1921), Christianity and Liberalism (1923), and The Virgin Birth of Christ (1930). He and other conservative Presbyterians formed the Independent Board for Presbyterian Foreign Missions in 1933 and the Orthodox Presbyterian Church three years later. After graduating from Johns Hopkins University in 1901, Machen enrolled in Princeton Theological Seminary, where he earned both a master's in philosophy and a bachelor's in divinity D. G. Hart (Ph.D., Johns Hopkins University) is director for honors programs and faculty development at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, Wilmington, Delaware.
