This conference offered the first international forum for industrialists, technologists, lawyers, policy makers, social scientists, consumer representatives and others to discuss the social implications of Home Interactive Telematics. The first chapter contains papers which deal with controlling and assessing new technologies in general and HIT in particular. Analytical surveys of the main visible form of HIT at the moment, Videotex, are gathered in the second chapter. Chapter three examines social implications, chapter four discusses the need to be aware of how new communication technologies could influence human communication, while the next chapter focusses upon the home and the urban environment. Papers which more explicitly deal with developments in new services, including tele-education, are collected in chapter six. The position of consumers as the end-users of HIT is the subject of chapter seven. Telework, the area of HIT most investigated to date, is dealt with in the last chapter.Van Rijn, F. is the author of 'Concerning Home Telematics : Proceedings of the IFIP TC9 Conference, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 24-27 June, 1987', published 1988 under ISBN 9780444704061 and ISBN 044470406X.
