Eighth United Nations Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names : Berlin, 27 August-5 September 2002

The Conference, held once every five years, seeks to reduce alternative names for the same places around the world, as well as to simplify and standardize such names. In the intervening period, preparatory work for the Conference is carried out by the Group of Experts.
