William Stringfellow (1928-1985) was a unique figure in theology and law. One of the few American theologians of whom Karl Barth and Jacques Ellul spoke and related to with affirmation and affection, Stringfellow did theology 'underground', in the shadows, amongst the marginalised, with the disaffected.
