Patrick McDonnell, whose Mooch character often draws comparisons to Krazy Kat, actually coauthored Krazy Kat: The Art of George Herriman, considered the definitive book on this classic strip. Patrick also has curated a show on comic strip dogs for the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, Calif. He was awarded the Ark Trust's Genesis Award in 1997 and again in 1999 for "outstanding contribution to animal protection by a cartoonist." In 2004, he was honored with the first-ever Genesis Award for Ongoing Commitment.
