Andre Bank is currently doing his M.A. in political science, Islamic studies, and sociology at the University of Tubingen. He worked as an intern with the research project "Elite Change in the Arab World" at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin. Steffen Erdle received his M.A. in Islamic studies, political science, and history from the University of Freiburg. He is currently finishing his doctorate at the Humboldt University, Berlin. Iris Glosemeyer received her M.A. in political science, Islamic studies, and history from the University of Hamburg and her doctorate in Political Science from the Free University, Berlin. She has specialized on political developments in states of the Arabian peninsula, worked as a freelancer for a number of research institutions and participated in the research project "Elite Change in the Arab World" at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin. Currently she is a consultant to the German government. Rola el-Husseini holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris. Between January 2001 and December 2003 she worked on the research project "Elite Change in the Arab World" at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin. She is currently a postdoctoral associate at the Yale Center for Inernational and Area Studies and a lecturer in sociology at Yale University. Volker Perthes holds a doctorate from the University of Duisburg. He worked as an assistant professor at the American University of Beirut (1991-1993) and has been with Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) the German Institute for International and Security Affairs since 1992. Currently, he is the head of the Middle East and Africa Division of SWP and the director of its research project on "Elite Change in the Arab World." Perthes is the author of numerous books and scholarly articles on Middle Eastern political economy and international relations. Hans-Joachim Rabe received his Ph.D. in Middle East politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. He is currently working for a German development agency, where he coordinates public relations in one of its developments. Oliver Schlumberger is a research officer at the German Development Institute (GDI), Bonn, and continues to lecture at the Institute of Political Science, Eberhard-Karls University of Tubingen, where he served as an assistant professor at the time of writing. His current research focuses on issues of governance in the MENA region, on economic reform and order in the Arab and developing world, and on methods of comparative research on political regimes and nondemocratic regime change. He is the author of several articles on Middle Eastern and international political economy and Arab politics. Isabelle Werenfels received an M.Sc. in development studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London. After working as a journalist on social and political developments in the Middle East for several years, she joined the project "Elite Change in the Arab World" at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP). She currently holds a research position at SWP and is finishing her doctorate in political science at Humboldt University, Berlin. Saloua Zerhouni received her Ph.D. in political science from Hassan II University, Casablanca. She has worked on parliamentary elite and democratic transition in Morocco. She held a previous research position at Georgetown University and is currently working in the research project "Elite Change in the Arab World" at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin.
