Walter Frisch is professor of music at Columbia University. He is author of Brahms and the Principle of Developing Variation (1984) and The Early Works of Arnold Schoenberg, 1893-1908 (1993), both of which received an ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award, as well as editor of Brahms and His World (1990) and Schubert: Critical and Analytical Studies (1986), and a former editor of the journal 19th Century Music.
