An annotated collection of diary entries written by John Wollaston, a pioneer of Western Australia. The first of a three-volume set, this journal covers the period March 1840 to August 1842. Wollaston was an observant writer who included lively accounts of shipboard life and the setting up of his parish, St Mark's, at Picton. His honest description of life in Australia's alien environment is a valuable primary source document. Wollaston went on to become rector at Albany and the colony's first archdeacon.
