Steven M. Kurtz is the leading international authority on UHMWPE materials used in joint replacement. Dr. Kurtz received his doctorate at Cornell University, where he studied the role of oxidative degradation on the contact mechanics of hip and knee replacements. He has authored dozens of peer-reviewed articles about UHMWPE materials, and written both national and international standards for UHMWPE materials used in joint replacement. Dr. Kurtz is a Principal Engineer at Exponent, Inc., where he consults with orthopedic implant producers on new technologies for joint replacement surgery. He is the Director of Exponent's Philadelphia office. Dr. Kurtz also directs a hip and knee implant retrieval program at Drexel University to determine how UHMWPE materials change after implantation in the human body.Kurtz, Steven M. is the author of 'Uhmwpe Handbook Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene in Total Joint Replacement', published 2004 under ISBN 9780124298514 and ISBN 0124298516.
