One of the most discussed and controversial writers of the postwar era, Alain Robbe-Grillet, along with Nathalie Sarraute, pioneered the nouveau roman. His first novel, The Erasers, was published in 1953. In 1955 he wrote The Voyeur, for which he received one of the most important French literary awards, the Prix des Critiques. Other novels include Project for a Revolution in New York, La Maison de Rendez-vous, and Djinn.
