Transatlantic Research into Air Combat Engagements (TRACE)

The foundation for the Transatlantic Research into Air Combat Engagements (TRACE) program was laid in 1992 with discussions held between Hannes Ross of Daimler Benz Aerospace (Dasa) and Don Gum of Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). At that time both Dasa and AFRL were interested in the development of combat pilot aiding systems. Both countries felt that there was significant value in conducting evaluations comparing the performance of the two country's pilot aiding systems: Integrated Control and Avionics for Air Superiority (ICAAS), developed by AFRL, and Automated Maneuvering Attack System (AMS), developed by Dasa.
