Tiger, True to Form is a biography of "Tiger," Korean by birth, who overcame traumatic experiences during the Korean War while yet an adolescent. Left orphaned with many siblings, he guides them through that period under extremely difficult circumstances. Unbelievably he is selected to attend college in the U.S. by supportive citizens of South Carolina from whence he goes on to study medicine at Harvard. His progress is rudely interrupted by arthritis, which launches him to embark on research to understand the disease that nearly crippled him. Later, he returns to the South, continuing in research and gaining widespread recognition. As Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of Tennessee (UT), he becomes the first Asian to chair a department of medicine in U.S. medical schools. Among the many awards given to him, the Ho-Am Award from Korea, the highest given by the country of his birth, signaled the recognition by Koreans of his scientific contributions, his link to his native land, and the bond between the U.S. and Korea. Along with others, he continues, like a tiger, in the battle against rheumatoid arthritis.Kang, Ellen S. is the author of 'Tiger, True to Form ', published 2006 under ISBN 9781424110179 and ISBN 1424110173.
