Three Critics of the Enlightenment Vico, Hamann, Herder

Isaiah Berlin was born in Latvia in 1909. His family moved to Russia, where he witnessed the Social Democratic and Bolshevik Revolutions, and then to England. At Oxford University, he was Professor of Social and Political Theory and founding President of Wolfson College. He held the Presidency of the British Academy and received the Erasmus, Lippincott, Agnelli, and Jerusalem Prizes. He died in 1997.
