Though ordinary language has long since attracted linguistic interest, there has been little attention paid to declarative knowledge about language phenomena in everyday life (i.e., outside the academic context). This is surprising, given the fact that such knowledge is of major relevance for the optimization of communication, etc. The present study indicates avenues for research into this kind of knowledge.
