Glenn R. Schiraldi, Ph.D., has served on the stress management faculties at the Pentagon and the University of Maryland, where he received the Outstanding Teaching Award in the College of Health and Human Performance. He is the author of various articles and books on human mental and physical health, including The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Source Book: A Guide to Healing, Recovery, and Growth; Conquer Anxiety, Worry, and Nervous Fatigue: A Guide to Greater Peace; Hope and Help for Depression: A Practical Guide; Facts to Relax By: A Guide to Relaxation and Stress Reduction; Stress Management Strategies, and The Anger Management Source Book: Paths to a Calmer, More Peaceful Existence. Glenn's writing excellence has been recognized by various scholarly and popular sources, including the Washington Post, American Journal of Health Promotion, the Mind/Body Health Review, and the International Stress and Tension Control Society Newsletter. Serving at the University of Maryland since 1980, he has pioneered a number of mind/body courses, teaching coping skills to adults across a wide range of ages. His Stress and the Healthy Mind course, upon which this book is based, raised self-esteem, while lowering symptoms of depression, anxiety, and hostility. His research interests at the university center on personality and stress, including self-esteem, depression, anxiety, resilience, and post-traumatic stress. At the Pentagon, he helped to design and implement a series of prototype courses in stress management for the Department of the Army-including hostility/anger management, systematic relaxation, and communication skills. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Depression and Related Affective Disorders Association, a Johns Hopkins University Department of Psychiatry cooperative, and the editorial board of the International Journal of Emergency Mental Health.
