Neil MacGregor was born in Glasgow in 1946. He studied at the Universities of Oxford, Paris, Edinburgh and London and was called to the Scottish Bar, before becoming a lecturer in the History of Art and Architecture at the University of Reading. He was editor of The Burlington Magazine from 1981 to 1986, and since 1987 he has been Director of the National Gallery. He has presented two previous television series on painting with the BBC: Painting the World and Making Masterpieces Erika Langmuir obe was formerly Kress Fellow at the Warburg Institute, Reader at the University of Sussex, Professor of Art History at the Open University, and head of education at the National Gallery from 1988 to 1995.
