Promoting Probation Internationally

This publication is the result of the first International Training Workshop on Probation held in Valletta, Malta, in July 1997. Focusing on both strategic as well as practical issues, Promoting Probation Internationally presents a dual collection of papers presented by experts in the field of criminology & working group reports in which the participants shared policy, practice & experiences from their countries. The areas of discussion include: international trends in non-custodial sanctions; developments in probation: an international perspective; what works in corrections: a blueprint for action; developing a probation capability; & leadership in the management of the criminal justice system. A section of the publication is dedicated to a discussion on international co-operation in probation.
