"This account of the author's sojourn in the Sudan in the late 1880's, not always under the most favorable conditions, gives many insights into Sudan at the time. It features all the familiar characters from the Mahdi to General Gordon. Abdul-Allah, better known as the Khaleefa, had succeeded the Mahdi on his death in 1885 and soon took control of most of the Sudan with an army of 50,000 dervishes threatening to invade Egypt. The Khaleefa subsequently was killed in a decisive battle, led by General Kitchener in 1899, which signaled also the death of Muhdism. Previously out of print, this book is being reissued in July 2003."Neufeld, Charles is the author of 'Prisoner of the Khaleefa Twelve Years Captivity in Omdurman' with ISBN 9781844530762 and ISBN 1844530760.
