His Principles include civil laws and obligations, the social state, rights of property, sovereignty, and political power. Chipman [1752-1843] was a Hamiltonian Federalist who was early instrumental in Vermont's admittance to the Union. He became chief Justice of the state of Vermont, and then United States Senator from Vermont. His Dissertations were included by Warren in his list of "... the four general works on the Common Law...
