Francis Bartels is one of Ghana's most distinguished educationalists. He was formerly headmaster of Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast Ghana; he subsequently held several posts at UNESCO including Adviser on Education in Africa to the Assistant Director-General for Education, and Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education, University of Nairobi. He was also for a time the Ghanaian Ambassador to Germany.
