Ray Villareal graduated in 1981 from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Bilingual Education. In 1991 he completed his Master of Liberal Arts from the same university. He has taught for twenty-seven years, working mostly with fourth graders and maintaining a focus on writing in his classrooms. He lives in Dallas, Texas, and works as a reading specialist in the Dallas Independent School District.
