Art historian Eugenio Battisti (1924-1989) was professor emeritus at Pennsylvania State University and director of the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction at the University of Rome. He has written monographs on Giotto, Cimabue, Piero della Francesca, and Brunelleschi, but is best known for his reinterpretation of the artistic and literary culture of the sixteenth century in his books Rinascimento e Barocco and Antirinascimento. Claudio Gamba is a doctoral candidate in the history and conservation of art and architectural objects at the University of Rome.
