After graduating from St. Louis University Medical School in 1940, Edwin Parker chose to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology. The bombing of Pearl Harbor interrupted his residency; he volunteered for the army, where his service included training in the medical battalion of Gen. George Patton's 6th Armored Division, after which he was assigned to an evacuation hospital in New Guinea. At war's end, Dr. Parker completed his training in obstetrics and gynecology, which he practiced for thirty years. He later became the prenatal consultant for Orange County and the city of Long Beach, California, and was instrumental in creating an expanded training program enabling registered nurses to become nurse practitioners in the field of prenatal medicine. After practicing medicine for more than sixty years, Dr. Parker retired in June 2001Parker, Edwin is the author of 'Life Is a Gift Sixty Years of Medical Practice' with ISBN 9781882897766 and ISBN 1882897765.
