Allen Abramson is a senior lecturer in Social Anthropology at University College London. He has carried out field research in Cameroon, the Central African Republic and Trinidad. His research interests include the social ecology of shifting cultivators and pastoralists, inter-ethnic relations, cultural and institutional factors affecting development, and the interrelationship of education and social change. He has also taught in France and Nigeria Paul Durman is a postgraduate researcher in the Philosophy Department at Hull University. His research, 'Senses of Belonging and the Poverty of Ownership'-is concerned with the relationship(s) people have with the land as material (land, soil, property) and as an entity (Land, Nature, etc.).
