Jean Newlove was Laban's assistant after he came to England as a refugee in 1938. A lifelong performer and dancer, she became movement teacher at Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop, and stayed for 15 years, marrying the co-founder, Ewan MacColl. (Their daughter was Kirsty MacColl.) Since then she has taught Laban's ideas at the RSC and on courses all over the world John Dalby, as well as being a voice teacher, is a musician and actor, who assisted at some of Laban's courses. He has written and appeared in musicals and revues, some in the West. End and has worked on many notable films.
