Charles Reynolds was born in Northern Ireland and served in India with the Royal Air Force during World War II. Ordained by the United Methodist Church, he returned to India as district missionary and district superintendent. In 1965, he became executive director of the Ludhiana Christian Medical College Board and served for more than thirty years. Reynolds earned degrees from Adrian College and Drew University School of Theology, as well as honorary degrees from Asbury College and Academy of Ecumenical Indian Theology and Church Administration, Madras, India. Reynolds was commissioned as an officer of the Most Honourable Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 1995. In 1998, the citizens of Ludhiana awarded Reynolds a "Talwar" (Sword of Honour).
