The Dublin Core is an international standard for describing and cataloging many kinds of information resources: books, articles, videos, and World Wide Web (WWW) resources. This guide is a simple introduction to selecting quality resources from the WWW and cataloging them for the library catalog of small academic libraries. Small academic libraries are college and school libraries with less than 100,000 items in their library collection. Fifteen selection criteria are discussed in detail and a checklist is provided so that users can select the best WWW resources to include in library collections. Sixteen Dublin Core (DC) elements can be used along with three other pedagogical elements from the IEEE Learning Object Metadata (LOM) to describe the selected WWW resources. These elements are discussed, sample resource descriptions are made available, and worksheets are provided to create the DC metadata records for the library catalog.Coleman, Anita is the author of 'Guide to Selecting and Cataloging Quality WWW Resources for the Small Library', published 2004 under ISBN 9781929247097 and ISBN 1929247095.
