Nellemann, C., United Nations Environment Programme
The aim of the GLOBIO study was to develop a scientific, evidence-based communication tool for mapping the current and future environmental impact of human resource use; in order to inform policymaking and international agreements based upon sustainable development. Conventional assessments have usually been based on large numbers of case studies of specific ecosystems or species at various scales; the GLOBIO methodology was developed to elaborate a scenario assessment of the cumulative impacts of human activities on biodiversity and ecosystems at a large scale. This report presents the main features of the GLOBIO methodology and the outcome of its application to the Arctic region. The pilot study is intended to be the forerunner of a global scenario report.Nellemann, C. is the author of 'GLOBIO Global Methodology for Mapping Human Impacts on the Biosphere', published 2005 under ISBN 9789280720518 and ISBN 9280720511.
