DeShields' 1886 account of nine year-old Cynthia Ann's abduction by the Comanches in the bloody raid on Fort Parker in 1836, her life as a Comanche, her recapture a quarter-century later by Texas Rangers, & her last sad years separated from the Indians who had become her people. The original book was privately printed in 1886 & is long out of print. Chama Press has reproduced the original text in its entirety, including the author's preface & extensive footnotes. The only addition is a foreword by the distinguished Texas author John Graves. The 60-page volume, illustrated by four photographs, is letter-press printed on acid-free paper, bound in Dutch linen, & has a dust cover of heavy laid paper. The trade edition of 1,000 copies is priced at $35.
