SUMMARY

Steve Schneider began working with children and chess in 1974. Over the 25 years that he has worked with children and chess, he has developed a system that works well to train players. To encourage more young players, he started after-school chess leagues and team tournaments. Today there are thousands of scholastic players and hundreds of events for them to play in across the state. Steve has been instrumental in working with his partners to create Championship Chess ? a team of coaches, educators and curriculum writers who create scholastic chess books and educational media for young learners. Working with Early Childhood educators and chess experts, we have developed a "chess readiness" program for pre-K and K. We have also created ?Work-along Books? and videos in the Scholastic Chess Series that help parents support their elementary and middle school children's learning, as well as learn the game themselves or improve their own chess skills.Schneider, Stephen A. is the author of 'Chess Basics', published 2002 under ISBN 9780972945608 and ISBN 0972945601.
