Alex Katz was born in Brooklyn in 1927. Since 1954, he has been exhibiting his paintings at galleries and museums throughout the world, including a major retrospective organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art and many other museum shows in the United States. He has received a Guggenheim fellowship and an NEA grant and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
