How do I remove the SIM card from my iPhone or iPad?

We encourage you to remove the SIM card from your iPhone or iPad before sending it to us since SIM cards contain private information that identifies your device on a cellular network. On most devices the SIM card is located underneath the battery and can be easily removed. See below for more detailed information on how to remove your SIM card based on your device model:

  • iPhone 2G, 3G, or 3GS: Locate the SIM card tray between the headphone jack and the power button

  • iPhone 4 or 4S: Locate the SIM card tray in the right edge of the casing

  • iPad: Locate the SIM card tray on the side of the iPad

To remove the SIM card: Insert Apple's SIM card removal tool or a straightened paperclip into the pin-sized hole in the SIM card tray. This will eject your SIM card tray. Remove your card from the tray and reinsert the tray so it is secure and flush with the casing.
