Trade Policy Review Mozambique 2001

Summary: The objective of the Trade Policy Review Mechanism is to improve adherence by WTO Members to the commitments made under multilateral trade agreements. It provides a regular evaluation of the full range of individual members' trade policies and their impact on the multilateral trading system. The reviews are conducted on the basis of two documents: a policy statement by the Member under review, and a report drawn up b...y the WTO Secretariat. This report acknowledged the success of Mozambique's economic reforms and praised its economic performance in recent years, despite serious climatic difficulties. Members encouraged Mozambique to maintain the pace and direction of the reforms and urged that trade agreements be WTO-consistent. Attention was drawn to Mozambique's request for technical assistance. [read more]
