Summary: At about half the length and a much lower price than comparable anthologies, this introductory anthology of short fiction, poetry, and drama is organized by genre and features chapter introductions and a bibliography of film adaptations. Readings have been chosen with an eye toward classic selections and gender balance, while allowing the book to retain the teachability and traditional emphases for which it has long ...been admired.

This is an excellent collection of literature by mainly women in American and English literature from the early 17th century to the late 20th century. Many of these titles and short stories I had never been familiarized in high school or at the local community college. Excellent Women in Literature volume of stories and vast range of genre for authors.

This course material was not exciting to say the least. Yet, it was informational in the developing of greater understanding of literature and ways for it to be explicated on a piece of paper. Although, there were few authors writing in America the English literature is the starting point for the domination of the American author in the 20th century for nobel prize winning works of literature. With out this book to begin the literary experience, the student may find themself out-in-the-cold, so to speak when it comes to the understanding and comprehension of the early author, poets and cubicism modernist, Victorian period, Romanticism period, and even the Days of Geoffery Chaucer.
