Summary: Neil MacGregor was born in Glasgow in 1946. He studied at the Universities of Oxford, Paris, Edinburgh and London and was called to the Scottish Bar, before becoming a lecturer in the History of Art and Architecture at the University of Reading. He was editor of The Burlington Magazine from 1981 to 1986, and since 1987 he has been Director of the National Gallery.
