Summary: J. M. Roberts was a Fellow and Tutor of Merton College, Oxford from 1953 to 1979. Between 1979 and 1985 he was Vice Chancellor of Southampton University. He then returned to the Wardenship of Merton, from which he retired in 1994. He has also spent a considerable amount of time in the United States, holding posts at Princeton, Columbia University, the Institute for Advanced Study, and the University of South Carolina....
