Military Readiness Dod Need To Reassess Program Strategy, Funding Priorities, And Risks For Selected Equipment

Assesses the condition of key equip. items (EI) & determines if the military services (MS) have adequate plans for sustaining, modernizing, or replacing them. To address these questions, 25 major EI were selected, & determined: their current condition; whether the MS have mapped out a program strategy for these items; whether current & projected funding is consistent with these strategies; & whether these EI are capable of fulfilling their wartime missions. The report recommends that the Sec. of Defense reassess program strategies & funding priorities for key EI to ensure that the EI are sustained until replacement items are fielded. DoD should also highlight the risks involved in sustaining these EI & steps DoD is taking to address these risks.
