Based upon actual events and with the aid of a vivid imagination, Lessons Animals Taught Me is a compilation of short stories detailing the author’s experiences with animals—both human and otherwise, and about the lessons learned from those experiences. All are back-dropped by the author’s love of Vermont, her natural wonders and her people. Each story begins with a poem, some of them award winning. Two poem titles are: The Ice Has Left the Willow” and Autumn Unfolds.” Following the poem is a segment outlining a fact about Vermont. Two examples are Vermont’s styles of architecture and a brief history of John Deere, who was born in Vermont. Each story ends with a lesson, like, It doesn’t pay to sneak around doing something you shouldn’t or someone may yell at you in French,” and Keep your eye on the cat or it may swipe your dinner.” How one person can get into and then out of situations involving animals are sure to delight the reader, and the laughter the stories are sure to evoke will leave the reader giggling.
