Summary: Introduction to Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, 7/e, presents comprehensive coverage of the subject of thermodynamics from a chemical engineering viewpoint. The text provides a thorough exposition of the principles of thermodynamics and details their application to chemical processes. The chapters are written in a clear, logically organized manner, and contain an abundance of realistic problems, examples, and il...lustrations to help students understand complex concepts. New ideas, terms, and symbols constantly challenge the readers to think and encourage them to apply this fundamental body of knowledge to the solution of practical problems. The comprehensive nature of this book makes it a useful reference both in graduate courses and for professional practice. The seventh edition continues to be an excellent tool for teaching the subject of chemical engineering thermodynamics to undergraduate students.

J.M. Smith is the author of Introduction to Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics (The Mcgraw-Hill Chemical Engineering Series), published 2004 under ISBN 9780073104454 and 0073104450. I think that the equations pertaining to a certain subject are somewhat scarred in a chapter. I don't like the way they structured the book. I would chose a more systematic approach to organize the equation just so that student can relate one equation to another.

The primary subject was first and second law of thermodynamics. I think it was very well presented for the most part. But again I would have chosen to organize the equations in a more systematic way. My professor had printable notes available for each chapter which helped a lot.

The class, chemical engineering thermodynamics, focused largely on finding equations of state for non ideal gases and liquids, then using these equations to find thermodynamic values such as entropy, enthalpy, work, temperature changes and heat changes. The class also looked at thermodynamic properties of mixtures.

How to use partial derivatives to find relationships when I have more than one changing property was something very useful I learned from this book.
