Paul Homer continues a dual career in law and poetry. Having served in WWII in an armored reconnaissance battalion in the European theater, he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and later received his J.D. from Northwestern University. He became a member of the bar in 1951 and in 1986 joined the international law firm of DLA Piper US LLP as a senior partner where he continues to practice business, tax, real estate and commercial law and litigation. He has received a number of awards for his career-long dedication to providing pro bono legal services for the indigent and poor in Chicago communities, continuing today as President of Uptown People's Law Center. On his 80th birthday the City Council of Chicago proclaimed it "Paul Homer Day" in honor of all lawyers at the private bar "who have recognized and acted on their collective duty to sustain the poor in our society." He is a distinguished recipient of numerous rejections from some of our most prominent poetry journals. His debut collection Neighborhood Legends and Other Poems was published in 2004.
